Health Insurance: How Consumers Can Protect Yourself From Fraud Schemes

Health insurance is something that everyone must have in most cases in order to pay for medical expenses and so forth. However, everyone out there is looking for a deal on this in order to save themselves some money in a hard economy. This is why there has been an increase in the number of scams that are out there that are directed towards those that are shopping around for the best health care plan that they can find. There are tons of people out there that have been scammed by these health insurance frauds that are out there. And for those that think that it can never happen to them, then they are living in a fantasy world as these scams make these health insurance plans seem so great that they simply act on them and regret that decision later. There are a few things that the person should be on the lookout for in order to make sure that they are not getting scammed out of their hard earned money.

First off, the person should never act on impulse when it comes time to find a plan. There are those scammers out there that will encourage the person to buy the plan right now because if they do not then the deal is gone. If the plan is being offered by a legitimate person there should be nothing that states that the person cannot wait a few days and still get the same offer on the plan. In fact, most companies state that the quote that they give the person is good for at least thirty days of the time of it being quoted to them. Therefore, if you feel that the person is pressuring you to buy right now, simply go somewhere else. You should never feel as though you are being pressured to do anything when it comes to getting the health insurance plan that you are wanting.

Secondly, find out just who the person is licensed by to sell health insurance. The person will find that all people that sell this health insurance are going to be licensed at a state level and even a national level. Therefore, this means that you should get a card from the person and look them up. If you find that their name is no where in the system, then chances are they are someone that you do not want to do business with.

Another aspect that you will need to watch out for is if the person tries to get you to buy the policy based on the fact that you must buy the policy because the new health reform act requires this. Most people are aware that they will have to have health insurance by the year of 2014. However, that does not mean that the person has to have this right now. They will find that some scammers will push this on the person, even though this is not required to just get more money from the person. If you find this to be the case, then simply quit dealing with the person and find someone else to handle your health insurance needs.

If you ever hear that the plan that you are getting is grandfathered in so that you are not going to be affected by changes to state or federal laws regarding health insurance, you should immediately see this as a huge red flag to avoid. The person will find that this is not the case in any type of insurance. Nothing is ever grandfathered into the point that it is not going to be affected by the changes to health insurance that is being implemented at a state or federal level. The person needs to make sure that they are not falling victim to this as it will come as a complete shock later when they find out the truth about their health care plan.

Overall, the person needs to make sure that they are using common sense when it comes to finding a health insurance plan that is going to work for them. They will find that if they are ever in doubt about the person that is selling their health insurance to them and just how legitimate the person is they can contact the National Association of Insurance Commissioners to find out if the person is legitimate or not.
